When you see a Kumon franchise for sale, it's a location that's already running, and the owner sells it to you; the deal can't close until Kumon approves you.
Buying a Kumon franchise from its owner

Kumon's requirements before a sale is approved
- The seller has to give notice plus all relevant information, with a completed Transfer Proposal Form included.
- The seller needs to have spent at least two years as a Kumon franchisee.
- All obligations to Kumon must be met by the seller.
- The buyer must complete the Instructor Development Program and meet all other requirements to become a franchisee.
- The buyer must sign the franchise agreement in force at that time and arrange for the Center to be upgraded.
- The buyer owes a $2,000 initial franchise fee ($3,000 with EFL) and a $2,000 fee for materials.
- The seller must sign a general release for Kumon's benefit.
- The seller must send written notice showing the landlord consented to the buyer taking over the lease.

Where to find a Kumon franchise for sale
Units on the market aren't listed in the FDD. Ask Kumon's franchise team as well whether any owner close to you is selling, since owners sell through business brokers plus listing sites.
Price is up to the seller. Ask for profit and loss statements covering three years, then compare the price with what it costs to open a new Kumon: $101,630 to $233,780.
